Ken’s Pepper Works is pleased to announce that Island Sunshine placed FIRST in the World Beat category of the 2016 Scovie Awards.  This marks the second year in a row that ISLAND SUNSHINE has won a FIRST PLACE Scovie Award.  Additionally, RED THUNDER won THIRD place in the same World Beat category.  When the smoke cleared, Ken’s Pepper Works won two of the three spots in the World Beat category in one of the most competitive hot sauce blind-tasting competitions in the country.

The Scovie Awards are part of the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show and judging was performed by top culinary experts.   Products were judged for appearance, aroma, spice blend, originality, flavor (heaviest weighting), and overall impression.

Competition for the 2016 Scovie Awards was stronger than ever, with 126 companies entering over 700 products.  Dave DeWitt, founder of the Scovie Awards and National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show said entries came from 30 states and eight countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Austria, and the United States.

“Companies from all over the world continue to recognize the Scovie Awards as the most competitive blind taste tested event in the world,” DeWitt said. “I’m thrilled that participation in the awards continues to increase year after year.”
